Residents of the Akatsi North District of the Volta Region, will soon have an ultra-modern market that will serve the many farming communities in the district for economic development.
Cutting the sod for the construction of the market after a meet the press program held at the assembly, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Dr Prince Amuzu said the proposed market forms part of the government's $1million-1-Constituency program.
The market would include a 20-seater open shed,15 unit lockable stores, a slaughterhouse, lorry station, a two-unit kindergarten school block with modern facilities is estimated to cost of GH¢800,000.
Dr Amuzu noted that there is a huge increase in food production in the district as a result of the government's Planting for Food and Jobs Program which according to him, has really helped improve the lives of the people.
He said roads leading to the various farming communities would soon be constructed to enable easy trans[portation of farm produce to the markers and also boost economic activities in the district
The DCE said some investors have expressed interest in establishing tomato and pineapple processing factories under the one-district-one-factory program.
Dr Amuzu also said the district is investing in cultivation cashew and oil palm plantation.
So, far 50,000 cashew seedlings have been given out free to farmers from the various farming communities.
A total of 2,520 seedlings of oil palm has also been distributed, he added.
