The special edition of the hit game show, ‘Who wants to be rich’, dubbed ‘Who Deserves to be Rich’ which has been running on TV for the past three weeks, came to an end over the weekend with Father Andrew Campbell winning a record 25,000 cedis, just an answer short of the ultimate. He was assisted by celebrity guest, Akosua Agyapong.
The series, which was aimed at rewarding outstanding Ghanaians who need money to sustain their efforts towards humanity and development, featured several remarkable individuals making a difference in the lives of several other Ghanaians.
The Irish born catholic priest is the hero, friend and savior of many lepers in Ghana with his invaluable contributions to the Weija Cured Leprosy Patients Rehabilitation Centre just outside the heart of Ghana's capital. Father Campbell preaches the integration of lepers into society and their treatment with dignity.
Father Campbell and Akosua Agyapong cruised their way through the show with increasing levels of difficulty but managed to have two of their lifelines, ‘Call a friend’ and ‘50/50’ intact on question 14. But when they were asked for the other name for un-identical twins, Akosua decided to call her elder sister. Akosua’s sister didn’t have the answer and so the pair used the 50/50 option and chose dizygotic twins over Siamese Twins. Akosua hugged the Father cheerfully when host, Kafui Dey confirmed their answer. There was so much joy on their faces and Father Campbell thanked the Lord before going on to the final question.
Kafui Dey was excited to read the ultimate question for the first time since the game show commence in September 2009. The final question asked for the year in which the movie ‘The Colour Purple’ was released. Father Campbell had never heard of the movie and Akosua had seen it so many years ago but could not remember the year it was released. In the end, they decided not to risk losing their money and so opted to walk away with 25,000 cedis.
Father Campbell said he would use the money to improve upon the lives of the inmate of the leprosarium. According to him government has promised to support the institute but the leprosarium has not received any support from the state in four years.
