The residents of Akrobi, a farming community near Wenchi in the Bono Region, have appealed to the Middle Belt Development Authority (MBDA) to facilitate the quick completion of a toilet facility for the community.
According to community members, construction of the toilet facility is part of the government’s $1 million per constituency programme, but the project was halted and abandoned seven years ago.
Although Akrobi is one of the densely populated communities within the Wenchi Municipality, they lack a decent public place of convenience.
A makeshift structure serves as the toilet facility for the community members.

Community members indicated that construction of the modern public toilet facility, financed by the $1 million per constituency programme and expected to solve the menace of open deification, has been abandoned for the past seven years.
The Unit Committee Chairman at Akrobi, Stephen Asante, explained that the abandoned toilet facility has unconvinced the inhabitants over the years.
He told JoyNews that although the construction of the toilet facility started some years ago, they do not know the contractor.
“The project site has become a refuse dump since it has been deserted.

And you see, we just can't understand why the government voted funds for such a project, but those responsible for the execution have failed in their duties while they walk about freely," Mr Asante pointed out.
He appealed to the government to ensure construction of the facility is completed on time so that the Akrobi community can have a proper place of convenience.
He intimated that the assembly member for the Akrobi electoral area, Eric Osei, organised the community to construct a localised toilet facility as they waited for the $1 million per constituency toilet facility to be completed.

“To help ourselves, we organised communal labour to construct this temporary structure as a toilet facility, which is not durable, so all we want is for the government to get the original project under the $1 million per constituency programme completed so that we can also be comfortable,” the unit committee chairman for Akrobi disclosed.
