Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on Christians to join in the development of the state. He noted that when Christians joined hands with state authorities to steer the affairs of the country, unacceptable practices such as corruption in various state institutions would be a thing of the past. Nana Akuffo-Addo made the call at the thanksgiving service of the 84th Presbytery Conference of the Akuapem Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Akropong Akuapem on Sunday. The NPP Flagbearer said Christians should not shy away from politics but rather take part in political activities in order to change the face of politics in Ghana. Nana Akuffo-Addo commended the Presbyterian Church of Ghana on its role in socio-economic development over the past years, especially provision of educational infrastructure and agricultural development. He called on other churches and religious organizations to learn from what the Presbyterian Church of Ghana was doing in order to move the nation forward. Reverend Dr. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, Akuapem Presbytery Chairperson, in a sermon, urged Ghanaians to thank God for the peace prevailing in the country and exhorted them not to relent in their prayers for continued peace and stability in the country. He made reference to civil wars and disasters that had hit many countries across the world and said Ghana had every reason to be thankful to God. Rev. Dr. Mante urged Ghanaians to be dedicated and worship God in honesty and truthfulness. He expressed concern about the growing incidence of insults among politicians in recent times and said the situation was not healthy for the development of the country. Rev. Dr. Mante said if Ghanaians allowed themselves to be filled by the Holy Spirit all the economic problems the nation was facing would be a thing of the past. He noted that Israel did not have half of the natural resources Ghana had but because of God's blessings the nation was enjoying prosperity. Rev. Dr. Mante said over the past years, the Akuapem Presbytery had chalked many successes both physically and spiritually. He said in spite of all the successes, the presbytery continued to face financial challenges and therefore appealed to all citizens of the presbytery to come and support it. Source: GNA
