NPP flag-bearer Nana Akufo-Addo has sent a congratulatory word to newly sworn-in president of Guinea, Alfa Conde.
In a statement signed and issued in Accra Tuesday, Nana Addo said the peaceful conduct of the election was praise-worthy.
The statement said, "On the occasion of your inauguration today as President of the Republic of Guinea, I join many other people on our continent and across the world to congratulate you on your assumption of high office following your great victory.
"The Guinean people have made positive history by electing, for the first time since independence in 1958, their national leader within the context of democratic principles and multi-party competition.
"Despite the predictable challenges and problems, democracy has triumphed in Guinea and Africa with your assumption of office.
"A lifetime of struggle for democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law and for solidarity amongst the African peoples has been acknowledged by the Guinean people in your election as President of the Republic.
"Guinea’s infant democracy will be safe in your hands, just as the Guinean people have now a leader dedicated to their freedom, progress and welfare.
"The conduct of Prime Minister Celou Diallo, who after due process, accepted the result of the election and conceded victory to you is also worthy of commendation.
"M. Celou Diallo’s enviable display of patriotism and statesmanship has indeed set the tone for the process of reconciliation in Guinea, a process which President Alpha Conde will undoubtedly deepen in order to unify the Guinean nation.
"I wish you and the Guinean people the very best of luck in the years to come as Guinea unleashes its tremendous potential to develop into a thriving, prosperous democratic state.
"It is my hope that the relations between our two countries of Guinea and Ghana will grow from strength to strength in your period as President of the Republic of Guinea.
"I wish you again the best of luck and the Guinean people, a brighter future," the statement concluded.
