The Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Mr Rashid Pelpuo has urged the President to extend Domelevo’s stay in office to prove his commitment to the fight against corruption.

Reacting to the ongoing developments between the Auditor-General and the Audit Service Board who have in a statement, deemed the Auditor-General, Daniel Yao Domelevo as having retired based on his date of birth, Mr Pelpuo stated that the President should restore Mr Domelevo as proof of his anti-corruption campaign.

"If I were president at this time fighting corruption, determined to fight corruption, I would tell him to come back and because of the special quality he has. I will extend his year for one more year to enable him do the one thing that he professed to do, the president professed to do, to fight corruption."

Speaking with JoyNews' Parker Wilson, the legislator stated that the issue at hand is not just about the Auditor General, neither is about a party but about "people who are insisting that somebody whom we all know worldwide, nationwide, who is committed to fighting corruption is being fought tooth and nail to a point that he can't return to work."

"I think that it is bad for Ghana," he added.

According to Mr Pelpuo, the Auditor General is free to resume work on March 3 despite the notice from the Board.

"He should still go to work. He should take his seat. Let someone raise it up, let it be taken to the appropriate quarters investigation. Let somebody decide that decision to stay in office is unacceptable and that he should go on leave or he should go on his retirement," he said.

Based on personal records available to the Public Service of Ghana, Mr Domelevo is being accused of having 2 dates of birth; one on June 1, 1960 and another on June 1, 1961.

The Audit Service Board have however decided on Mr Domelevo's date of birth in one of his passports which states he was born in 1960. By virtue of that, they say that as of June 1, 2020 he is deemed to have retired.
