President Nana Akufo-Addo will on October 17, 2018, outdoor the beneficiaries of the Nation Builders’ Corps programme.

The ceremony is expected to take place at the Independence square in Accra with some 50,000 of the beneficiaries.

Deputy Information Minister, Puis Enam Hadzide made the revelation to Joy News’ Gifty Andoh Appiah on The Pulse programme on the Joy News channel Friday.

He explained that the organisers of the NaBCo programme do not want to burden all the beneficiaries with coming to the capital so the rest will be outdoored elsewhere.

“Hopefully by the 17th of this month His Excellency will have the privilege and honour to outdoor the 100,000 NaBCo grandaunts…and it will be a massive spectacle,” he said.

“We have divided Ghana into two and five regions will gather in Accra…” he added.

The NaBCo programme is an intervention by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to minimise the level of unemployment in the country.

Seven modules including revenue sector, health sector, and education sector have been designed by the government on which the participants have been enrolled on.

Speaking on the beneficiaries of the educate Ghana module, Mr Hadzide explained that the NaBCo recruits won’t be sent to take over the job of the teachers but to supplement it.

They will act as Teaching Assistants (TAs) do in the universities; so things like script marking and tutorials will be handled by the NaBCo recruits.

Beneficiaries of the programme are expected to bag GHS 700 monthly; a little more than National Service Personnel do. The government has stated that National Service is a requirement to be enrolled on the programme.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has however run down the programme, with some of the Minority MPs referring to it as a cosmetic approach to solving unemployment since the programme is a 3 year one.

 “In fact, it is extended national service because you have a graduate who has finished his service and then you ask him to enrol on this programme and do another service…” Tamale North MP, Alhassan Suhuyini told Joy News when the programme was launched.

But the government has insisted the beneficiaries won’t be unemployed after the programme.

“In the course of the three year period that they are on the NABCO programme, our expectation is that they will develop their skills, improve their professional competences and at the end of the period, they would have acquired the skills, training and the kind of qualification upgrade that will be required to ease them into permanent jobs,” the then Information Minister, Mustapha Hamid said.
