The Omanhene of the Akuapem Traditional area, Oseadeeyo Addo Dankwa has called on Ghanaians to live in unity rather than on tribal lines because "we are all from one root."
He was speaking at Akropong on Saturday when Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), called on him to traditionally inform him of his election.
Making reference to the speculations that the party elected Nana Akufo-Addo because it was assumed that it was the turn of an Akyem citizen to lead the party, Oseadeeyo Addo Dankwa said that assumption had a tribal implication that was not good for the unity of the country.
Nana Akufo-Addo said being an Akuapem, it was prudent to come and thank God at his home town and asked for the blessing of his ancestors as he embarks on the task of winning power for the NPP in the coming elections.
He said he was elated by the warm welcome he received from the people and the solidarity from his contenders and that he would not let the party down in the coming election.
Earlier at a thanksgiving service at the Akropong Christ Presbyterian Church, the District Pastor, Rev George Kwapong, urged him to seek the direction and guidance of God at any time because his election was not by chance but by the plans of God.
He said Nana Akufo-Addo should not bow to any pressure or power apart from God because God in his own wisdom had planned the redemption of mankind and knows how to do it.
Nana Akufo-Addo, who was accompanied by Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Prof Mike Ocquaye and Mr Dan Botwe all losing aspirants, later visited the tomb of his parents, late President Edward Akufo-Addo and Mrs Adeline Akufo-Addo who died in 1979 and 2004 respectively.
Nana Akufo-Addo also visited his father's ancestral home where libation was poured.
