Fourteen aspirants for five Akwatia District Assembly seats have appeared before the electorate to present their manifestos and to convince them as to why they are the right people to represent them.
Sadaams electoral area has four candidates, while Yawaso and Kwame Kuma have three each, two each also came from Awosua and Domeabra.
Among the candidates are two district assembly “veterans” having already held their seats for 16 years each. They are Mr Joseph Kofi Asiedu for Domeabra and Mr Abdulai Baba Gomda for Yawaso who said they were ready to retain their seats.
Mr Peter Osei Kwadwo also contesting the Domeabra seat said though he was not yet in the assembly, he and others had been able to get Zain Telecommunication Network to sink four boreholes in their areas.
For the Awosua seat Mr Evans Owusu, who once served as representative in the assembly, said during his tenure he had extended street lights to the area among other projects.
He said he was presently organizing free classes for students in forms one to three in the Senior High Schools.
For the same seat Mr Alex Addy Botwe said when elected, he would seek funds to complete the Akwatia community library.
Mr Erasmus Ali, popularly known as “Asanka Poyoyo”, was welcomed with standing ovation when he appeared to present his manifesto to re-contest the Kwame Kuma seat.
Mr Ali who stood unopposed four years ago said he needed not to make any promises since he had used his personal money to provide water for his area, including construction of four standpipes and recently the sinking of a borehole, which cost him over GH¢6,000.
Mr Opoku Stephen, a former assembly member for Awosua, now standing for the Kwame Kuma seat said during his last tenure he had two schools built and promised to be a “good steward”.
Mr Hamza Yakubu promised to ensure that all school children attended school and to ensure that the electoral area had clean environment and sanitation.
With the two contestants wanting to wrestle the Yawaso seat from Mr Gomda, Mr Ahmed Tijani, said there was the need for change since only one person had represented the people for 16 years. Mr Kwame Asiam said he would embark on an anti-mosquito spraying exercise in the area and to ensure that an incinerator built by the district assembly was put to use.
For the Sadaams seat, Mr Isaac Opoku Boakye said since the area had no public place of convenience he would get the district assembly to build one. Mr Kofi Agyei Gyimah promised to serve the people “day and night”.
Mr Prince Lukman for the same seat called for unity in the electoral area since without unity nothing good could be achieved.
Mr Justice Quaye promised that when elected he would ensure that the area enjoyed constant water flow.
