The Akwatia Police Command in the Eastern Region has arrested a man identified as Coffie Agyemang, a resident of Kwamang, for allegedly attempting to sell his three-year-old son.
The suspect confided in a friend about plans to sell the child, citing severe financial hardship as his motivation.
The information was subsequently relayed to the police, prompting an intelligence-led operation.
According to reports, police officers posed as prospective buyers and arranged a meeting with the suspect. During negotiations, Coffie Agyemang allegedly agreed to sell the child for GH¢1 million.
He was reportedly arrested after bringing the child to the agreed location to finalise the transaction.
It is further alleged that the suspect intended for the child to be killed for ritual purposes, after which the body would be returned to him as proof.
