Al Waleed Comprehensive Basic School has been crowned the 2024 NFL Flag National Champion in the U12 division.
The one-day NFL Flag football tournament took place on Saturday, October 23, 2024, in Accra, featuring 12 U12 teams of boys and girls from 24 schools across Accra and Kumasi.
Fast-paced and accessible to all, flag football is one of the fastest-growing sports globally, with women and girls driving significant growth in participation.
NFL Flag is the official flag football program of the NFL, aiming to bring the non-contact version of American football to young athletes worldwide.

“It has been an incredible day of competition with teams full of talented athletes,” said Afia Law, of NFL Flag International. “We’re thrilled to be here, offering boys and girls the opportunity to celebrate the sport of flag football. Congratulations to Al Waleed Comprehensive Basic School!”
Al Waleed Comprehensive Basic School faced Nima 1 Basic School in the U12 Championship Game, winning 12-0 and securing the title of Ghana’s 2024 National NFL Flag Football Champions.
The event also featured Minnesota Vikings linebacker Brian Asamoah, who launched his flag football league in Ghana, showcasing a competitive game between two U14 teams. Additionally, a U17 high school girls' flag football game took place in Accra, highlighting the commitment to the sport's growth in Africa.

The Philadelphia Eagles, who hold marketing rights in Ghana as part of the Global Markets Program, supported the NFL Flag Championship tournament and hosted an All-Star Flag Championship on October 20, featuring six adult flag football teams.
Flag football is set to be included in the LA 2028 Olympic Games, led by the efforts of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) and supported by the NFL. NFL Flag programming is active in Ghana and will continue across the continent, with more tournaments planned in Africa in the coming months.
