Mr. John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the runner-up in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership race has topped a survey conducted by the Danquah Institute which sought to find out the preferred choice of running mate for the party’s flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.Alan beat Hajia Alima Mahama, who is favoured by the flagbearer to the second spot.The survey which was conducted over a two-week period in Accra and released on August 2, took views from 361 respondents of which 192 (53.2%) were men and 169 (46.8%) were women.It was part of a nationwide survey commissioned by the Danquah Institute, a think-tank affiliated to the NPP.The main question posed was, “Who will you prefer to be Nana Addo’s vice presidential candidate?”According to the organizers of the survey, the respondents were not provided with a list of names but interestingly the conclusion arrived at showed that Alan who came second to Nana in the NPP presidential primary clocked a total of 137 votes (33%), with Alima Mahama picking 131 votes (31%).Third in line, however, was the most ‘media popular’ candidate, Abubakar Saddique Boniface with 94 votes (22%).Interestingly Oboshie Sai Coffie’s name came up strongly with 31 votes (7%), followed by Alhaji Jawula with 28 votes (7%). No other names came up, according to the findings.Two hundred and ninety respondents said they would not be influenced as to their choice of presidential candidate by who is chosen as running mate; seventy-one of the respondents thought otherwise.One hundred and ninety-eight of the respondents said Ghana was ready for a female running mate whilst 157 said Ghana was not ready for a female running mate.One hundred and ninety-five of the respondents thought Hajia Alima was a vice presidential material whilst 141 thought she was not.Two hundred and nine of the respondents said they would vote for Nana Akufo-Addo if elections were held today, while 98 people said they would vote for Prof. Atta Mills, the NDC candidate.Fifty-four of the respondents could not make up their minds as to who they would vote for.Comparing the records of both parties in government, 222 of the respondents thought the NPP had performed better, 102 gave it to the NDC, whilst 35 of the respondents could either not make up their minds or said both had done well.The areas sampled were Korle-Bu, Nima & Mallam Atta, Mamprobi, Dansoman, Makola, Arena, UTC, Timber Market, Bubiashie, Cantonments, Circle, Teshie Tsui Bleoo, Adzorman, Greda Estates-Teshie/Nungua, Sakumono, Spintex, Baatsona, Darkuman and La.Source: Daily Guide
