Gushegu MP Hassan Tampuli has urged the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to consider and accept a request from former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, to be virtually questioned in connection with ongoing investigations.
Mr Tampuli believes that the digital tools available today offer a reasonable alternative for engaging with individuals unable to attend in person.
His comments follow the OSP’s announcement of plans to trigger an INTERPOL red notice against Mr Ofori-Atta for repeatedly failing to honour invitations for questioning.
The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, disclosed at a press briefing held in Accra on Monday, 2nd June, citing the former Minister’s non-compliance as the reason for escalating the matter.
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV on the same day, Mr Tampuli said the OSP should make use of technological options to enable Mr Ofori-Atta to respond to the allegations.
“What is important for me is that there are other options available for Ken Ofori-Atta to engage the OSP,” he stated.
“In this era of digitisation, we should be able to see some amount of change. The OSP should take advantage of this digital platform and engage him.”
Mr Ofori-Atta is reported to have requested a virtual session due to medical complications, although details of his condition have not been publicly disclosed.
Despite this, the OSP insists that no formal medical report has been submitted to support his absence, which it considers to be an act of bad faith.
