Allegations that government is distributing food to the vulnerable along party lines amid the coronavirus lockdown, is “odd and weird,” Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said.

The Information Minister says he has not heard any validation of the claim made by Klottey Korle MP, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings.

“Let us be factual,” Mr. Nkrumah told Emefa Apawu on JoyNews’ ‘The Lockdown’ programme on Sunday.

Speaking ahead of President Akufo-Addo’s 7th address to the nation on the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ofoase-Ayirebi MP questioned the substance of the claims.

He said the major challenge being faced by those distributing food to the underprivileged, is to get them to observe social distancing protocols.

In the midst of all that, Oppong Nkrumah questioned how someone can inspect party cards before giving out food to people.

He said the NDC MP and her colleagues have failed to prove their claim.

“Ten of her colleagues have repeated her claim, they have not corroborated it.

Allegation of partisan distribution

I have now heard the Honourable Member of Parliament who made that claim saying that she is calling for a probe into it,” ,” the Information Minister said.

The Social Protection Ministry and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, he added, have dismissed the claims.

The NDC MPs have, however, backed their colleague, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings.
