The CPP has expressed disquiet over recent comments by the Central Regional Director of Communications of the ruling NDC, Bernard Allotey Jacobs, to the effect that the CPP would need divine intervention to emerge as a strong force in Ghana's political landscape.
According to the CPP, attempts by some members of the NDC to denigrate the party corroborates the revelation in the leaked diplomatic cables published by wikileaks that the ruling party plans to 'kill' the CPP.
Allotey Jacobs, a former CPP member who defected to the NDC opined that the current crop of CPP leaders lack vision and ideas to make the party a formidable force to compete against the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the ruling NDC.
He added that the CPP needs to rid itself of its old ideologies and address the petty issues of infighting within the party to make the party more attractive.
But in a quick rebuttal, the Communications Director of the party, William Doworkpor, said Allotey Jacobs' attempt to denigrate Nkrumaism is very unfortunate.
“It is unfortunate the NDC is parading somebody like Allotey Jacobs as a leading member of their party. He has no idea what governance is about,” he added.
Willaim Doworkpor was speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday.
According to him, Allotey Jacobs who professes to be an Nkrumaist should have helped in the reorganization of the party but decided to join NDC for his parochial interests.
Doworkpor noted that anybody who understands governance would uphold the ideals of the CPP, and wondered why the NDC would resort to propaganda instead of focusing on fulfilling their Better Ghana Agenda.
“They (NDC) have been governing this country for the past three years and they have not been able to tell the people of Ghana where they are leading this country. They are bound to fail, this is why they have resorted to propaganda,” he said.
William Doworkpor observed that a CPP government would come out with a clear, long-term vision which would relieve Ghanaians of the economic hardships they are currently being subjected to by the NDC.
Meanwhile, all is set for the extra ordinary National Delegate Congress of the CPP scheduled to be held on September 9-10 at Ghana International Trade Fair Centre in Accra.
Meanwhile about 2,300 delegates of the CPP are expected to elect new national executives at the party's delegates congress Saturday at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra as the party bids to rejuvenate ahead of the 2012 general elections.
Incumbent chairman Ladi Nylander; Ms Araba Bentsi-Enchill, a vice chairman; ex-chairman Prof. Edmund Delle and Jomoro MP Samia Yaba Nkrumah are in the race for chairmanship.
