The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has denied that it failed to notify political parties to remove billboards mounted by the parties during last year’s election. The General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC) Bernard Mornah accused the AMA of not officially writing to his party on the directive. The ultimatum expires Wednesday 29 April 2009.Public Relations Officer at the AMA, Frank Asante, however told Joy News the assembly duely served the parties letters directing them to remove their billboards. He hinted the assembly has already called for a meeting to come up with a strategy that will ensure the speedy removal of the billboards. The AMA late April issued a directive to political parties in the country to remove advertisements lining the streets that were used for campaigning towards the 2008 elections.Although the elections have been conducted and a decision made by the electorate, streets of the capital city are still dotted with huge billboards and posters, mainly of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).A leading member of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia told Joy News the ruling party is yet to take steps to remove its campaign materials from town.Story by Fiifi Koomson/Myjoyonline.com
