The Accra Metropolitan Assembly says it cannot be held responsible for any disaster that might befall traders who sell near open drains at its Pedestrian Shopping Mall at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
Parts of the mall get flooded after heavy downpours, and the traders have threatened to return to the streets to ply their trade if the problem was not fixed immediately.
But in reaction to the traders’ threat, the Public Relations Officer at the AMA, John Appiah told Joy News that the area close to the drainage was not meant for habitation and that those occupying it were doing so illegally.
Mr. Appiah however assured that Assembly was in consultation with the Ministry for Water Resources, Works and Housing to fix the problem.
