Ghanaian music star Kuami Eugene has praised fellow artiste Amaarae, describing her as a long-standing musical force whose extraordinary talent is only now being widely recognised by the mainstream.
Speaking in an interview with Doreen Avio, Kuami Eugene referred to Amaarae as his “big sister” and a “legend,” expressing admiration for her consistency and unique appeal over the years.
“Amaarae is my big sister. She’s a legend, though. But the funny thing is it has never been quiet with Amare. It’s just her circle… That’s where she finds herself,” he said.
He explained that Amaarae’s sound, often rooted in alternative and global influences, resonated strongly within niche audiences but remained relatively under the radar of Ghana’s mainstream music consumers.
“People she used to appeal to is not the regular Ghanaian masses. She’s been making waves since. It’s just quite sad that people are now getting to know Amaarae. But I’m excited they’re getting to know Amare now because the talent she has is insane,” Kuami Eugene added.
Amaarae, known for her genre-bending sound and bold artistic style, gained international acclaim with her hit single Sad Girlz Luv Money, which charted globally and featured artists like Kali Uchis and Moliy. She has since performed on major global stages and continues to be a leading figure in the alternative African pop scene.
