The Cooperate Affairs Manager of Amalgamated Bank, Charles Ampofo, has denied allegations that the bank bribed Joy FM to ensure the station did not pursue a negative story against the bank.
Speaking on ASEMPA FM, Charles Ampofo indicated that a journalist, Justice Annan who works with the Informer newspaper, rather came to meet with him and other officials of the bank, namely the Acting Manager and the legal counsel of the Bank to demand money in order to stop publishing a story that alleged the involvement of the bank in fake currency dealings.
According to Charles Ampofo, the journalist allegedly told them that, he had a personal interest in the matter and wanted to use any medium of getting money.
Charles Ampofo further alleged that, he and his colleagues from the bank have evidence of various text messages Justice sent to them demanding money.
Meanwhile, Justice Annan who later reacted to the statements of Charles Ampofo told ASEMPA FM that, one Stephan Arthur whom he claims to be part of the management team of the bank, told him to come to a compromise and see how far they can protect the image of the bank in the midst of series of negative publications against it.
He said Stephan Arthur rather suggested the idea to pay money in order to get the story retracted.
