President Hage Geingob of Namibia has called for increased economic cooperation between Ghana and Namibia for the benefit of their people.
He said currently the level of trade between the two nations was low and that there was the need to move the relationship to a higher trajectory.
President Hage Geingob stated this when he made a stopover in Accra after attending the 70th United Nations General Assembly summit in New York.
He was received by Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur at the Jubilee Lounge of the Kotoka International Airport.
Dr Hage Geingob was elected President of Namibia by an overwhelming margin of 87 per cent of the vote on November 28, 2014 and sworn in as President on March 21, 2015.
Namibia's economy is driven by agriculture, tourism and mining. The country is rich in minerals such as diamonds, uranium, gold, silver, and other base metals.
President Geingob observed that Ghana was a peaceful country and that he felt at home here, hence his decision to stopover.
He said Ghana had a great history on the African continent in terms of Pan-Africanism and the continent’s liberation struggle.
He said Namibia and Ghana had a long standing excellent relationship, and stressed the need to strengthen the relationship, especially in the areas of trade and investment.
Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur on his part, called for the setting up of a permanent joint commission between the two countries to enhance trade relations.
He urged African countries to strive for economic development and good governance.
