The National Media Commission has asked the director general of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, William Ampem Darko to proceed on an indefinite leave.
This follows allegations of malfeasance leveled against him in an audit report.
The Media Commission has also directed the Board Chairman of GBC, Prof. John Aheto to step aside while investigations are conducted into allegations of malfeasance and corruption against Mr Ampem Darko.
The Deputy Director General of GBC, Mr Kwabena Anane Sarpong will act as Director-General of the state boradcaster.
The Commission also directed Mr Edward B. Asare, a member of the Board to chair the board in an acting capacity.
A statement signed by the Executive Secretary of the NMC, Mr George Sarpong and issued in Accra, said the NMC had observed that there was an "obvious breakdown of mutual trust and confidence between...Prof. Aheto and Mr Ampem-Darko" which was negatively affecting the operations of GBC.
"The National Media Commission wishes to assure the two principal actors, the Board, Management and staff of GBC and the whole nation that it is investigating all relevant matters affecting the operations of this important national institution in order to re-establish normalcy in the operations of GBC," the statement added.
