The sacked Director General of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Mr. William Apem-Darko has said the conditions of service which he enjoyed whiles in office was as a result of his rich negotiation skills.
The former GBC boss explained that he, like all other chief executives and directors of state-owned institutions negotiate individually for their conditions of service adding that what he earned at the state broadcaster was agreed upon between him and the National Media Commission.
He was speaking in reaction to reports that as part of his conditions of service, his entertainment allowance alone was pegged at GHS 3000.
But the former GBC boss was quick to add that all other managers at GBC enjoy similar benefits.
Mr. Ampem-Darko has been challenging the circumstances surrounding his dismissal from the state broadcaster accusing the NMC of allowing themselves to be manipulated by what he described as "powers from above."
He further challenged the NMC to disclose the details of the investigation undertaken by the committee tasked to carry out the forensic audit insisting that he will resist any attempts by the NMC to tarnish his reputation.
He was unhappy that the said committee did not serve him with a copy of the report nor was he given an opportunity to respond to the corruption allegations.
He disclosed that those conditions of service were there long before he took office adding all the directors who have occupied the position have all had the freedom to negotiate their own salaries and conditions.
Mr. Apem-Darko indicated that before assuming the position of the Director General, the corporation was making 1.5 Billion Cedis monthly, but before his exit the corporation was making over 9. Billion Cedis profit monthly.
He attributed the success story to good incentives that he introduced.
On his new occupation, Mr. Ampen-Darko said he will now devote his attention and time to farming and his family.
