An inter-party dialogue committee tasked to ensure peace before, during and after the December general election has been inaugurated in the Dormaa Municipality with a call on political parties to tolerate each other.The committee, which draws membership from all political parties, traditional and religious authorities, security agencies, the media and identifiable youth organizations in the Municipality, was formed under the auspices of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).Mr. Amankwa Boateng, Municipal NCCE Director, noted that the Committee would help promote understanding and respect among the various political parties and their followers in the municipality especially during the election year.The Committee will assess potential challenges to peace before, during and after the 2012 elections and also recommended actions to be carried out by stakeholders to ensure peace, he said.He tasked the committee to be vigilant to ensure set targets were achieved and the peace enhanced rather than breached.Mr. Boateng appealed to political party leaders in the municipality to impress upon their followers to respect the 1992 Constitution and the rights of others.He stressed the need for serial callers to be screened and advised radio programme hosts to find a polite way of putting off “red herring callers”.Okatakyie Ansu Gyeabour, chairman of the committee and Adomakomahene of Dormaa, urged Ghanaians to learn useful lessons “from the nation’s law-makers who identify and interact in a friendly manner irrespective of political affiliations” and behave in same manner to neighbours in the interest of peace.He gave the assurance that the committee would liaise with the Municipal and Regional Peace Councils to enhance its performance.
