Let me share how I met Dr Bawumia for the first time over 2 years ago and how his humility truly shocked me.
I have always been a fan of Dr Bawumia because I admire his mind. He is simply brilliant, and I resonate strongly with his ideas.
One day, I received a call that the Vice President wanted to see me. He had read a few of my articles and wanted to meet the person who wrote them.
When the call came through, I was told the Veep wanted to see me at his residence. They even asked what date and time would work for me.
Me? An ordinary me? Ei!
I was quivering with excitement. I wasn’t even sure what to wear.
When I arrived, I realized his security detail was lined up, ready to move out. I was then told that the President had called him for an important discussion, but because he had an appointment with me, he decided to wait and see me before leaving.
I was completely dumbfounded.
The Vice President of Ghana waited just to see me? A nobody?
He welcomed me warmly and spoke about how he had read some of my articles and how grateful he was that I could explain and break down some of the things he talks about.
In an almost apologetic tone, he explained that his security team was ready to move because the President had called.
We spoke briefly about his ideas, especially digitalization, and how it serves as an anchor for a modern and progressive economy.
He asked about my family and how things were going on my end.
At some point, I asked if I could give him a hug. With a warm smile, he replied, “Of course, my brother.”
We took some pictures and said our goodbyes.
I admired him from afar, but to meet the man and see him exhibit such humility when dealing with a commoner like me left an impression that is etched in my heart and mind forever.
This man is not only brilliant, he is simply a great human being.
Talking to him, I could see how deeply he cares about the ordinary person. I could feel his passion for the country oozing through every word.
I still get emotional whenever I remember that first meeting.
I can only imagine what such a man would do for Ghana as President.
