Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research (KCCR) is accessing funding support from Anglogold Ashanti to aid in breast and prostate cancer research.
Employees and contractors of the mining giant collaborated to undertake a fundraising to raise over 37,706 Ghana cedis to the KCCR.
AngloGold Ashanti has organized a series of prostate and breast cancer awareness campaigns in the month of October in the Obuasi municipality.
The fundraising activity to support research at KCCR was to crown the cancer awareness month.
Human Resource Information Systems Officer at Anglogold, Susanna Ndede, says the company is committed through its sustainable development strategy to contribute to the health and wellbeing of the people.
Under the theme "Boobs and Balls” “ we undertook a fundraising initiative where employees donated towards further research to develop early detection methods, treatment options as well as prevention campaigns for all,” she said.

The Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research described the intervention by Anglogold as timely.
Senior Research Fellow at the Centre, Dr. Augustina Angelina Sylverken said, “Looking at the current situation, the intervention is so timely."
The gesture will go a long way to help create awareness and conduct research in the areas of cancer,” she noted.
Anglogold Obuasi mine has also introduced a blood donation drive in the municipality.
