About five irate men Saturday attacked the Municipal Chief Executive for Ejisu-Juabeng, Afrifah Yamoah-Ponkoh during Saturday's National Sanitation day clean-up exercise.
The unidentified men verbally assaulted the outspoken MCE and threatened him in the presence of the District Motor Traffic and Transport Unit Commander, ASP George Aboagye.
A case of assault has subsequently been lodged at the Ejisu police station as police mount a search for the attackers.
Police say the irate men came in a vehicle with registration GR 55-10, which was draped in posters of an aspiring New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate.
The assault followed instructions by Mr Yamoah-Ponkoh for the clearing of illegal wooden structures constructed by traders on waterways in the municipality
Ironically, owners who had contributed to filth were absent during the exercise.
Mr Yamoah-Ponkoh told Nhyira FM he is disturbed by the attacks on his person.
"I don't believe in innuendoes that will distract me from responsibilities and duties assigned me by His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ejisu-Juabeng. I have a contract with them," Mr Yamoah-Ponkoh said.
Asked whether he feel threatened, he answered in the negative.
"I don't feel threatened at all. I know how to play politics. But this is sanitation. You don't play politics with sanitation and environment," Mr Yamoah-Ponkoh asserted.
