Veteran Ghanaian sprinter Vida Anim says she is looking forward to making Ghana proud at the upcoming Olympic Games in London.
In an exclusive interview on Joy Sports Today, Anim expressed disappointments at her inability to win enough laurels for the nation.
Though age seems to have caught up with her, Anim is confident she could replicate the form of former Jamaican athlete Merlene Ottey who raced for Slovenia in her later years.
“I have been competing in the sport over the years and have acquired enough experience to distinguish myself on the racing track.”
“I am not happy though with the tartan tracks at the El-Wak Stadium. I am told they have replaced the old ones but they are not too different from the ones we have been complaining about over the years”.
She added that failure on the part of the Ghana Athletics Association to also provide logistical support coupled with governmental delays in providing adequate funds is affecting the growth of the sport on the local scene.
She however expressed her satisfaction with the Local Athletics Controling Body for acquiring the timing system which helps athletes to know their race times immediately they are done competing in a race.
Anim is scheduled to compete at the upcoming African Athletics Championship in Benin to help with her preparations for the London 2012 Olympics.
