Erica Boateng, one of the victims of last Friday’s road crash involving a petrol tanker at Anyinamso Number-One in the Atwima-Mponua District, had died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
The deceased, aged one-and-half years, had been on admission at the Intensive Care Unit of the facility after sustaining severe burns.
Her death now brings to three the number of fatalities.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Frederick Mensah, Nkawie Divisional Commander of the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), told the Ghana News Agency that the body of little Erica was awaiting autopsy.
The driver of the tanker, Abubakar Sadick, and his mate, Paul Yaw Owusu, also perished on the spot.
They were burnt beyond recognition when the tanker carrying about 30,000 litres of gasoline from Kumasi to Sefwi-Dwenase in the Western Region crashed.
The driver was said to have ignored to slow down when he got to a speed rump on a section of the road at Anyinamso and in the process the speeding truck overturned, hit a parked vehicle and caught fire, which spread quickly to engulf a number of houses along the road.
Erica was trapped in one of the affected houses and suffered extensive burns.
She was rushed to KATH and admitted at the Intensive Care Unit.
