Scientists and researchers under the umbrella body, African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC) will from the 18 to the 22nd of November converge in Marrakech, Morocco for a world conference on cancer.
The conference would be in two parts: a 2-day pre-congress workshops and a 3-day congress that would delve deep into the study of cancer. Participants will deliberate on cancer biology, cancer treatment, the spiritual-psychosocial and economical aspects of cancer, as well as cancer causing agents.
AORTIC formed in the 1980s by expatriates African living in northern America has grown from an attendance of 80 in a conference held in Accra, Ghana in 2003 to over one thousand in conferences held in Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania.
With paid up membership of 400, AORTIC which is pan African, pan-disciplinary and trilingual is affiliated to international cancer organizations in north America, Europe, Africa and Middle East. The group is credited for the production of quarterly cancer magazine, which has proven an excellent networking tool.
Through support from the National Cancer Institute of USA, AORTIC has funded over 25 young researchers to perform research in Africa with mentors from Northern countries.
With support from the Lalla Salma Foundation for the Prevention & Treatment of Cancer and many other philanthropic foundations such as Susan G. Komen, American Association for Cancer Research, American Cancer Society among many others, AORTIC is optimistic the upcoming conference in Morocco will afford participants the opportunity to share knowledge, exchange ideas and learn at first hand research work done and its impact on cancerous diseases.
Meanwhile President of Breast Care International, Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai continues to receive international recognition for his inspiring role in education and awareness creation about breast cancer.
Latest is an award for Entrepreneurial Company by the World Confederation of Business based in Houston, Texas in the United States of America.
