Lack of water supply to the Apam Catholic Mission Hospital is hampering the smooth operation of the health facility, which is the only hospital in the Gomoa district.
This has resulted in the hospital spending about $1,600 on water every quarter, a situation that was draining its finances.
An overhead water reservoir installed since December 2006 has become a white elephant, because water does not reach the hospital area.
The medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Ebenezer Ameka made these known when welcoming a delegation from the General Electric (G.E) Health Care team from the United State of America to the hospital on Friday.
He called for the extension of water to the hospital to alleviate the water problem facing the institution.
The Medical Superintendent said the hospital was the only District Hospital in the Central Region equipped with an Internet facility as well as the latest X-ray machine in the country.
Later Mr Alex Confer-Dunas, leader of the delegation presented items including 30 mattresses, 30 pillows and 30 bed sheets to the hospital to improve its operation.
The chief of Apam, Nana Effrim X, receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, thanked General Electric for the assistance to the hospital.
He said he had released a three-acre plot of land to the hospital for the construction of an accommodation flat for the staff and appealed to the Gomoa District Assembly to ensure that water gets to the hospital.
