A staunch member and serial caller of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Frank Appiah popularly known as Appiah Stadium says he is no more a member of the largest opposition party.
He explained that his decision follows intimidation and threats from members of the NPP in the Ashanti region who have made life unbearable for him.
Appiah Stadium, who had established himself as an ardent supporter who solidly held the fort in defending the NPP on radio in 2009 was attacked by some youth activists of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) whiles driving along the Asafo roundabout in Kumasi.
The youth who considered Appiah Stadium as a threat to the NDC nearly beat him to death and in the process burnt to ashes his Daewoo Lenox saloon car valued at GH¢7,100.
But Appiah Stadium seems to have taken a u-turn from his previous position and is often heard now defending the Mills-led administration.
This has raised doubts in the minds of many, especially members of the NPP which party he now supports.
However, on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday, Appiah Stadium expressed regret at the leading role he played during the erstwhile Kufuor government's administration.
He said his contribution has not at all been appreciated by the NPP.
According to him, the NPP neglected him when some scoundrels nearly claimed his life in Kumasi.
The NPP serial caller noted that even though he risked his life leading demonstrations against the NDC, the Ashanti regional branch of the NPP have expelled him from the party stating that he is now ‘in bed’ with the NDC.
Appiah Stadium observed that even if he decides to join the ruling party; nobody in the NPP can stop him because it is his fundamental human rights.
Conceding that he has close acquaintances with some leading members of the ruling party, the serial caller said he has no plans of joining the NDC.
Appiah Stadium who was appalled by the situation vowed not to vote for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flag bearer of the NPP in the 2012 general elections.
He revealed that he would vote for President John Evans Atta Mills if he constructs the Accra-Kumasi road.
