The Architects Registration Council [ARC] is advocating for the promulgation of a law to be called Building and Common Property Act that will see to the maintenance of public buildings.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Council, Architect David Leonard Yartey at a ceremony to induct newly registered Architects on Thursday.
According to Architect Yartey, the professional body must take up the task of championing the course of the advocacy process as well as ensure representation on the team which will see to the enforcement of the Act, when passed.
He added that the Board will be in a position to serve notices to owners of buildings to carry out maintenance and repair works, failure of which will attract sanctions.
Architect Yartey suggested that government privatizes the maintenance of public buildings as a way of ensuring compliance.
The 11th induction ceremony saw 20 new architects ushered into the professional body.
They swore to uphold global standards while being ethical. The senior architect tasked the inductees to work hard to develop strategies to ensure sustainable maintenance systems.
