An armed robbery victim in Kumasi is unhappy with the manner in which the police are handling the case in which armed men attacked him in broad daylight about a year ago.
Kwame Owusu Ansah is accusing the police of being reluctant in prosecuting a suspect whom he claims the police granted bail without recourse to the court. The suspect was arrested two weeks ago.
He also alleges some political figures are making subtle moves to let the suspect go scot-free.
Luv FM’S Erastus Asare Donkor reported that residents of Amakom in Kumasi confirm a gang brutalized and robbed Owusu Ansah in the full glare of the public last year.
The complainant says he identified Bashiru Attah, popularly known as ”Bash” as leader of the group.
Owusu Ansah allege that Bash and his gang subjected him to severe beating with knives and clubs. He said he lost his teeth and sustained serious injuries in the brutal beatings he received.
He says the robbers made away with some IT gadgets and an unspecified amount of money in both foreign and local currencies.
Following investigations, a docket was prepared but investigators are allegedly being restrained by un-named political figures from going to court.
Owusu Ansah alleges he has been approached by several government appointees and police officers to accept compensation and abandon his quest for justice.
The police have confirmed the incident, but say the docket has been forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Office, for advice.
