A security expert and Executive Director of the West African Network for Peace-Building, Emmanuel Bombande says the latest ammunition bust in the Northern Region is an indication that the various factions are not confident in the peace efforts there.
The Northern Region Police Command last Friday impounded a cargo truck carrying ammunition at Bimbilla.
Very little is known about the bust except that both the owner and driver of the vehicle are in police custody.
The region has seen a number of clashes between various factions over the years. Both the military and police maintain a heavy presence in the area in a bid to avert any further clashes amidst efforts at finding a lasting peace.
Even though movement of arms in the region has been prohibited, Mr. Bombande says smuggling of ammunition will continue so long as the parties are not confident in the peace efforts.
