Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has dismissed rumours he has made an approach for Marseille star Andre Ayew.
The Ghanawide-man has been linked with many of Europe’s top clubs and was reported to have been a summer transfer target of the Gunners.
But Wenger, who signed Gervinho from Lille and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Southampton, insists he did not attempt to sign Ayew.
The 21-year-old is under contract with Marseille until 2014 and will be a major threat to Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League at Stade Velodrome on Wednesday.
But ahead of the match, Wenger is quoted as saying by his club’s official website: “I like the player, but we didn’t approach him.
“We have many wingers. We brought in Gervinho and we have (Andrey) Arshavin, (Theo) Walcott and we brought in Oxlade-Chamberlain too.
“Ayew is a very talented player, but in the middle we have a lot of players too.
“On Wednesday, we have eight midfielders and we could have had Jack Wilshere too, but he is injured.”
