Veteran musician Alhaji Sidiku Buari says musicians who sing profane songs need psychiatric treatment.

The former president of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) condemned the increasing spate of profanity in music blaming internet proliferation as one of the major factors.

Alhaji Sidiku Buari, speaking in an interview with MzGee on Joy News said, “The internet is a problem so if an artiste is going into that kind of thing (profane songs) then that artiste has a problem. You know we have to send that artiste to the psychiatric to check whether he is alright.”

Recently, dancehall artiste Shatta Wale raised eyebrows when he released WMT which propelled the Union to place a restriction on the choice of words artistes use in songs.

He said if he was still heading the affairs of the Union, he would have placed a ban on Shatta Wale’s WMT.

Rapper Wisa shocked audience at the Decemba 2 Rememba organised by Citi FM when he allegedly removed his genitals on stage while dancing with one of the female dancers. The case is currently before the court.

The former MUSIGA president noted that Wisa’s act is one that brings the nation and music practice into disrepute.

“Look at those in the Western countries where they can do all sort of things, how many people do you see doing that? Is that what will make you popular or what? It’s wrong,” he said.
