A Pressure group, Asante Youth Association, has urged the two contestants for the Presiding Member position of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to step down.
The election of the Presiding Member (PM) for the Assembly ended in fisticuffs after five rounds of voting failed to produce a winner.
The two contestants, Nana Kofi Senya and Nana Adumhene both failed to secure the two-thirds majority votes required by the law to win.
However, eight days after the unfortuanate incident, a Presiding Member for the Assembly has still not been chosen.
At a news conference in Kumasi, Secretary of the group, Barima Tweneboah Kodua said it is important for the two contestants to step aside for new candidates to emerge.
He disclosed the “Metropolis stands to lose greatly if this Presiding Member election issue persist for an additional month.”
He expressed confidence in the Regional Coordinating Council Director and the Regional Minister, Alexander Ackon to help the Assembly out of the impasse.
On his part, the Convener of the group, Nana Oppong Boadi charged the two candidates the two to stepdown because they have failed to get the two-thirds votes needed.
They submitted a strong worded petition to the Otumfuor, the Local Government Minister and the Regional Minister.
