Paramount, divisional, and sub-chiefs from across the Ashanti Kingdom have assembled at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi for an emergency sitting of the Asanteman Traditional Council, presided over by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
While the specific agenda remains undisclosed, palace officials have described the meeting as “urgent and of high importance” to the governance of the Ashanti Kingdom.
On 7th August, the Palace issued a statement inviting all traditional leaders in the Kingdom to the meeting on Monday, 11 August.
The rare convening of the council underscores the gravity of the matters under discussion.
Security has been visibly reinforced around the palace, with traditional protocol officers and police personnel working together to maintain order and ensure the smooth conduct of proceedings.
The Asanteman Traditional Council is the highest decision-making body of the Ashanti Kingdom, and emergency sittings are infrequent, typically signalling significant developments within the traditional administration.
