A research conducted by a media advocacy group, Media Foundation for West Africa on the use of indecent language on some selected radio station has been challenged by Asempa FM and Citi FM.According to the Deputy Executive Director of the Foundation, Suleiman Braimah, the research findings revealed that expressions that were calling on supporters to be violent and offensive were mainly coming from the New Patriotic Party.The research also revealed that in terms of expressions categorized as insulting and provocative, the National Democratic Congress were the worst culprits.The findings also show that most of these indecent expressions occurred on radio stations programmes which were usually held in the Akan the language.The research also noted that the expressions that were found to be indecent on morning programmes were those that were calling on people to be violent and attack each other as opposed to those expressions found on evening discussions programmes that were abusive, provocative, and insulting.The research singled out Ankobra FM, Axim, and Foxx FM in Kumasi as stations found to be using conciliatory expressions amidst the tensed atmosphere.In terms of radio stations found to have been associated with the most indecent expressions that are calling on people to be violent, most of these occurred on Citi FM whereas Asempa fm were found to have used insulting and provocative language.In a sharp rebuttal, Programmes Manager of Asempa FM, Samuel Yirenkyi, has questioned the basis for the research adding that all guests who appear on the station are adequately briefed about the station’s policies and that those who consistently breach it were sanctioned.The management of Citi FM, another station that was also fingered by the Media Foundation for West Africa research has also said they disagree with the findings but will issue an appropriate response very soon.
