The Disciplinary Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ashanti has been urged to investigate alleged unsavory remarks made on some radio stations by the party's Regional Organizer, Kennedy Kankam, and apply appropriate sanctions against him.
Mr Kankam is reported to have said on a Kumasi-based FM station, Radio "Angel" that some leading members of the NPP were behind the agitation for the prosecution of former Government Officials.
Mr George Ayisi-Boateng, a founding member of the party, in a petition to the Committee, stated that the alleged statement was intended to create disunity, confusion and public ridicule of the party.
"It was also aimed at maligning the reputation, image and dignity of the 2008 presidential candidate of the party and all members of the party alike.
"I, a founding member of the party, owe it a duty to protest against the conduct and utterances of our Regional Organizer. I therefore, lodge this as a formal complaint that needs to be investigated and the necessary sanctions applied accordingly", he stated.
Mr Ayisi Boateng appealed to the Committee to act on the complaint with dispatch to curtail further confusion in the party.
The petition was copied to the Regional Executive, Chairman of the Council of Elders, the General Secretary, the Secretary, Founding Members Association and the Chairperson, Ashanti Parliamentary Caucus.
