The Ashanti Region Police is stepping up its patrols and securing all highway and auxiliary routes into the region following multiple robbery attacks on the Kofiase-Mampong road.
They are also on the hunt for two robbers who were part of a gang that robbed traders in a commercial vehicle on the Kofiase-Krobo Road.
Two people died while a police inspector was shot in the shoulder when the police chanced on a highway robbery at Mampong.
The robbers shot and killed one person and wounded two others.
Another vehicle which ignored an order to stop ran over six of the passengers the robbers had ordered to lie on the road, killing another passenger.
Three of the robbers were arrested at Nkwanta with two escaping.
The Ashanti Region PRO, ASP Mohammed Tanko says for now the suspects will be remanded as investigations continue.
According to him, a number of cartridges and squeezed monies were retrieved from the arrested robbers.
The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
ASP Tanko said they are liaising with some of the victims to provide vital information that would help them investigate the matter.
He assured the police are tightening security on the high way to protect lives and property.
Meanwhile, the dead have been identified Evans Anane, 13, and Beatrice Opoku while the police inspector who was shot in the shoulder is responding to treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital.
Eight others who were injured are also receiving treatment at the Mampong government hospital.
