Persons who legitimately raised structures in water ways near the Weija Dam can now heave a sigh of relief, as the Ga South Municipal Assembly is considering compensation packages for those to be affected by the demolition exercise. This development follows demands from residents for reparation before vacating the area, even though the Ghana water company limited has been asking residents of the area to evacuate before dam gates for Weija are opened. However, Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has stated clearly it owed residents no compensation directing them to their various assemblies to be recompensed. In line with this, the Assemblyman for the area Kwesi Mensah has told JOYNEWS Keminni Nyamanni Amanor though it is not clear what will be offered, some form of compensation will be given. He stated “….if you have permit [to build there]…we will give compensation…we will discuss….I can’t say what form yet …” Meanwhile, the scheduled demolition exercise was called off Thursday and no clear reasons were given. Mr. Mensah intimated the Assembly had not been officially informed of a demolition exercise.
