The West Akim District Assembly has decided to offer sponsorship to 70 nursing trainees into nursing training colleges with effect from next academic year.
Mr. Kwabena Sintim-Aboagye, the District Chief Executive announced at the second ordinary meeting of the first session of the West Akim District Assembly at Asamankese and expressed confidence that in future the shortage of health staff in the hospitals and clinics in the district would be overcome.
He said 64 youth made up of 53 females and 11 males were receiving practical training at the Asamankese Government Hospital as health extension workers and they would be distributed to the health facilities in the district on completion of their training.
Mr. Sintim-Aboagye said 133 youth have been employed under the National Youth Employment Programme, to teach at various schools in the district.
He said 117 youths had started farming under the agric-business module and had cultivated 147 acres of vegetables, maize and cassava.
Mr. Sintim-Aboagye said 26 youth had been employed under the Waste and Sanitation Management and 50 registered for the community protection system.
