Authorities of the Ankaful maximum security prisons are warning that Ghanaians should be ready for high crime rate in the country if they fail to show love and care to inmates in the various prisons.
Prison authorities say the continuous abandonment of inmates by some families and society at large is having adverse effect on the reformation process in the various prisons.
The officials of the Ankaful Maximum Security prisons spoke at the Care project, a project organized by Joy FM's partner station, ATL FM to show love to inmates of the prisons on boxing day.
Central regional correspondent, Richard Kwadwo Nyarko who was present at the prisons reports the event was memorable.
The Sports Complex at the Ankaful prison was filled to capacity as inmates played different games with the ATL Staff.
The male inmates were particularly excited with the presence of the ladies from ATL.
ASP Daniel Machetor Central Region PRO of the Prisons Service lamented the treatment meted out to prisoners.
He said family members always ignore inmates whenever they are jailed and that hardens the criminals.
"We are appeal to the public to accept them so that crime will be minimised," he appealed.
The inmates were treated to a buffet after the sporting activities.
The inmates team were led by Nii Ayi Ayittey popular called Ataa Ayi.
