The embattled District Chief Executive nominee for Atebubu Amanten has been rejected by the assembly members of the area.Mr. Sanja Nanja failed to obtain the mandatory two thirds of total votes cast to gain confirmation. He polled 19 out of the 32 votes cast, falling short by just two votes.Obviously disappointed Nanja told Joy News’ Elton John Brobbey he is hopeful of getting confirmation at the assembly’s next meeting.By law, the assembly is to reconvene in ten days to take another vote on the nominee. He believes the resistance of the Atebubu Traditional Council impacted on the ballot and hopes to win some of the assembly members over before the next meeting.Mr. Nanja’s nomination was met with resistance from the chiefs of the area who argue he is not an indigene. The chief of Atebubu Amanten, Nana Owusu Achea Brempong who vowed to go on hunger strike if the nomination was not withdrawn, promised bloodshed Tuesday if the confirmation process proceeded.John Brobbey however reports the chief was nowhere near the area where Mr. Nanja failed to secure confirmation.Instead, the supporters of the rejected nominee invaded the area threatening to beat up the assembly members who voted against the nominee. They were held at bay by a team of military and police personnel who shielded the assembly members from the angry supporters. The Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Eric Opoku who was present at the meeting expressed disappointment at the failure of the nominee to sail through.Story by Malik Abass Daabu/Myjoyonline.com
