The Atiwa constituency seat has formally been declared vacant, following the death of the MP for the area, Kwasi Annoh Ankama.
Speaker of Parliament Joyce Bamford Addo announced the MP’s death to his colleague legislators on Wednesday after his family members formally informed the leadership of his death.
Mr Ankama, who is a New Patriotic Party MP, died in London last week after a protracted illness.
Parliament’s Director of Public Affairs Jones Kugblenu said the Speaker would direct the Clerk of Parliament who would then communicate to the Electoral Commission about the vacant position for a bye-election to be held.
Kwasi Annoh Ankama a lawyer by profession was born on June 1st 1957.
He hails from Abomosu in the Eastern region and married with three children. In 1984 he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science at the University of Ghana, and passed out from the Ghana School of Law in 1986.
Mr. Ankama proceeded to the University of London where he read PGD law in Housing law. Kwasi Annoh Ankama was a special assistant to former president John Kufuor during his tenure.
In the 2008 election he obtained more than half of total votes casts to win the seat in his constituency. Kwasi Annoh Ankama a catholic died at age 53 in the United Kingdom.
