Cecil Jones Attuquayefio, coach of Ghana’s Olympic soccer team has said that he is content with the challenges that come with playing against tough teams.
The Black Meteors was on Tuesday housed in Group A alongside Tunisia, winners of the South Africa- Botswana and Cameroon-Gabon duels for the All African Games in Algiers in July and the tactician says the Ghanaians will come well.
He told the GNA Sports that, “It is a good exercise to play tough teams especially when you have crucial qualifiers like that of the Olympic Games ahead.
“Engaging tough teams is the only time you can really examine your strength and get prepared for the challenges ahead. I strongly relish the opportunity of meeting each member of the group in Algiers,” he said.
The former Africa’s Best Coach said the Meteors will use the competition as a stepping stone in deriving that fine form to qualify for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
The Meteors, bronze medalists at the Barcelona Games in 1992 will begin their campaign for Asia in June against a yet-to-be-named opponent.
The Olympic Games qualifiers end next March.
“Algiers will surely be a test of our temperament but our aim is to maximize every opportunity that smiles at us in our quest to build a solid team that will make all proud,” he admitted.
The coach is envisaging an European tour for the team in search of that desired exposure ahead of Algiers.
He said: “We should be able to marry the foreign-based players and their local counterparts by next month when the various leagues will be on recess so we can have a tour of central Europe to step up our preparations towards the competitions and the qualifiers.”
