A sensitisation forum on HIV/AIDS for 80 participants from Gomoa Brofoyedur, Apam, Gomoa Lome, Mumford and Dawurampong in the Gomoa District of the Central Region has ended at Apam.
It was jointly organised by Peoples Dialogue (PD) on Human Settlement and the Ghana Federation of the Urban Poor (GHAFUP0) in collaboration with the American Jewish World Service (AJWS) all non-governmental Organisations (NGOs), to accept persons living with HIV/AIDS and to avoid stigmatisation and discrimination.
Salifu Abdul Mujeeb, HIV/AIDS Programme officer of PD, said the programme was a community led response to HIV/AIDS through care campaign development and involvement, leadership roles and occupational hazards were discussed.
Mr. Mujeeb stressed that loneliness could kill and called for care and attention to be given to PLWHA.
Kojo Anane, Programme Officer of PD, said GHAFUP and AJWS had branches in Greater Accra Western, Central, Volta, and Ashanti Regions, adding that, it was a long-term programme expected to cover over 60,000 people.
The Central Regional Coordinator of GHAFUP, Sheik Alhassan, called on members of GHAFUP to rekindle their communal spirit to ensure that their monthly clean up exercises benefited more communities especially during the rainy season to prevent a possible outbreak of an epidemic.Source: GNA
