Africa World Airlines (AWA), Ghana’s leading airline, has marked its Safety Week to underscore its unwavering dedication to maintaining the highest safety standards for passengers, crew, and operations.
As part of the celebration, AWA’s Safety Department organized a Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Walk at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) airside.
This initiative is aimed at raising awareness about aviation safety and sustainability. Beyond ensuring operational safety, the walk highlighted AWA’s commitment to creating a positive impact on the community and advancing industry standards.

In an interview with Joy Business, the Head of Safety at AWA, Andrew Asante Amankwa, stressed the importance of addressing FODs to enhance aviation safety.
"FOD is a hazard to aviation operations. We all remember the Concorde accident, which was caused by FOD on the runway. As it was lifted off, it perforated the fuselage, leading to an explosion. Today’s joint walk represents our commitment to safety. It’s not just about picking up debris but fostering a culture of safety in our environment," he explained.

During Safety Week, AWA organized various activities to promote safety awareness and reinforced its focus on the well-being of customers and staff.
The FOD Walk, a key highlight of the week, was executed in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Passion Air, Ghana Airports Company Limited, and OmniBSIC Bank.
