Head trainer of the Ghana athletics team, Albert Nukperzah has exclusively revealed to JOY Sports that ageing sprinter Aziz Zakari will not feature in his plans for future international championships.
The 35-year-old revealed he would retire after the just ended All Africa Games but later rescinded his decision stating his desire to compete at next year’s Olympics.
Coach Albert Nukperzah believes Aziz Zakari no longer has the credentials to compete effectively at the highest level.
He said, “Aziz Zakari might not get a place in the team because he has been running for over fifteen years now. Aziz has reached that stage where he cannot progress further but it was just his best time of 10.25 seconds that qualified him for the World Athletics Championship and the Maputo games.”
Zakari, who has been heavily criticized for his string of disappointing performances over the past 5 years, has been training young sprinters Shepherd Agbeko and Appiah Kubi for the multi sport competition.
